Goldstein Projects Current


The Goldstein Projects are additional buildings adjacent to the Sheats/ Goldstein Residence that my office has designed and detailed. These structures will occupy a series of functions that include a tennis court, office, theater, terrace, nightclub, and a guest house. Currently under construction is the nightclub and more specifically some furniture is being formed to be poured in the coming weeks.

The project details are intensely unique and are constantly being developed. The concrete reinforced cantilevers stretch out long distances to thin edges. This can be achieved by lengthening the rebar further and further into smaller strands while retaining rigidity by connecting back to the network of steel that reaches down into the structural slab. While the materials used throughout these projects are a very limited palette that comes from the vernacular of the original residence the finishes and concrete mixes are new as there have been developments in the products.

A recent article featured the new work in the magazine Mark No.22.

A Futuristic Modern Architecture Box (dubbed the Sky Tower) nestled in the surreal setting above the clouds in the (futurist post apocalyptic) movie Oblivion  (2013) written and directed by Joseph Kosinski . The home takes some obvious inspiration from the Stahl House aka Case Study # 22 by Architect Pierre Koenig . The home has some obvious improvements with the the extended helipad over the see through acrylic infinity pool. Post Tensioned Cables

The benefits for using post tensioned cables in concrete our infinite, but the most dramatic is thinner clear spans that would not otherwise be achieved. When building a concrete slab with post tension system a deck is required as a form for the cables and concrete. I was recently reading an article from the September issue of 1956 House and Home and was astounded to see an interesting FLLW article with tips for the average home builder. As I was reading through the article I was realizing that those tips and advise were still just as pertinent today as it was in 1956.
