Wood CNC Routing: The Art of Layered Geometry
The Material: Why Plywood?
The "secret" to these pieces lies in the structure of the plywood itself. Plywood is a layered material composed of thin wood veneers glued together. By varying the grain direction and color of each adjacent layer, Anderson allows hidden patterns to emerge as the router carves into the depths of the sheet.
Key features of this process:
Topographic Depth: The deeper the router carves, the more layers (and colors) are revealed.
Mathematical Precision: Using CNC technology allows for perfect geometric symmetry that would be nearly impossible to achieve by hand.
Material Honesty: It celebrates the "strata" of engineered wood, much like a geologist looking at rock layers.
