John Lautner Returns to Sheats Goldstein Residence

Image
Photo from Curbed LA by Elizabeth Daniels The Artist Xavier Veilhan created an abstract sculpture of the Architect John Lautner as part of an exhibit called Architectones at the Sheats-Goldstein home back in May 2013. One of the main pieces of the exhibit was an abstracted metal sculpture of the Architect John Lautner looking down on the city from above in the Sheats Goldstein master bedroom. The idea for the piece and the location was derived from a photo of Lautner in the same position while the structure was under construction back in the early 1960's. Photo of John Lautner in Sheats Residence master bedroom during construction 1961 After the exhibit owner James Goldstein purchased a John Lautner sculpture by Xavier Veilhan and installed it at the home as a permanent exhibit.  The sculpture can now be seen as you walk along the pathway to the entrance of the Sheats-Goldstein Residence. Kendrick Bangs Kellogg (1934-2017) was an American architect known for his bold and innovative designs that often blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings. He was particularly noted for his use of unconventional building materials and sculptural forms, which give his buildings a distinctive and often whimsical character. The Doolittle House is one of Kellogg's most famous works, located in Joshua Tree, California. It was designed in 1988 for artist Bev Doolittle and her husband, Jay, and is sometimes called the High Desert House. The house is perched on a rocky outcrop and appears to grow out of the surrounding landscape. Kellogg's design incorporates elements of both organic and modernist architecture, with curvilinear forms and irregular angles that echo the contours of the rocky terrain. The Doolittle House is made primarily of steel, concrete, and glass, with a copper roof that blends with the natural colors of the desert. The interior features a series of intercon
