The Getty Villa

The Getty Villa is a roman villa that overlooks the PCH near malibu. The villa design was based on the villa of the papyri in Herculaneum . The Museum Villa was built in 1950s by J. Paul Getty to create additional room for storage and display of his large art collection. The Getty Villa was designed by the architect, J. Paul Getty, and modeled after Villa dei Papiri, a luxurious ancient Roman villa that was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The Getty Villa features a central courtyard surrounded by a colonnade of Doric columns, which is a typical feature of Roman architecture. The building is made of concrete, which was a material commonly used in Roman architecture, and has been faced with Italian travertine marble to give it an authentic look. The Getty Villa's exterior is decorated with frescoes and mosaics, which were popular decorative features in Roman villas.
