Kimbell Art Museum

Image
The Kimbell Art Museum is a wonderful example of great Architecture by Architect Louis Kahn in Fort Worth, Texas. The building consists of repeated concrete barrel vaults that make the massive 100 foot spans between concrete columns. The length of the vaults was achieved by draping post tension cables along the vaults. For more information about post tension cable construction see the article I wrote here . This year the Kimbell Art Museum is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. As part of the anniversary celebration a new controversial addition is being opened on the Kimbell Art Museum by Architect Renzo Piano. It would be tough for any Architect to build on the site of the beloved Kimbell, hopefully it will be complementary to its excellence. Judge Dredd inside the Idea of the Tower

Image
Le Corbusier City of Towers imagined giant towers that would be part of the City of Tomorrow. It was an utopian city idea that when implemented was far from successful . The new Judge Dredd movie depicts the super block ( Mega-City One ) and the plot takes hold in a mega sized housing tower ( Peachtree Block ). It was exciting to see an amped up 200 story ideal Corbusier Tower in its full post apocalyptic glory. Related Articles: Iron Man's House Top Ten Architecture Movies on Netfllix Architecture Porno

Louis Kahn and the Brick

Image
Louis Kahn discussion with the brick emphasizes the importance of the nature of materials. The unique nature of the material should be understood and used for its pure building qualities and not be substituted for another materials because they are available or cheaper. Louis Kahn was a renowned American architect who had a deep love for bricks. He believed that bricks were not just a building material, but also had a soul and character of their own. One day, he picked up a brick and asked it, "What do you want, brick?" The brick replied, "I want to be an arch." This conversation inspired Kahn to create his iconic design for the Yale University Art Gallery, where he used the brick to create stunning arches and intricate patterns that showcased the unique qualities of the material. The story of the brick became a metaphor for Kahn's philosophy that great architecture is not just about form and function, but also about the materials and the way they interact

Wow this may the most amazing boat i've ever seen. And the 33 million dollar price tag actually sounds reasonable for the luxury that the Walley Yacht offers. It holds an incredible 5800 gallons of fuel for a maximum range of 1500 nautical miles traveling at 9 knots and 300 nautical miles traveling at 60 knots.
